Vybond HVAC Tape: Purpose-Built for the Application
The wrong tape choice shows up at inspection: a flex duct connection made with a non-listed tape creates a compliance issue that has to be resolved before the job passes, and a reflective insulation wrap that does not conform to the substrate will gap at the edges, regardless of how cleanly it was applied. In both cases, the fix costs more than getting the right tape to begin with.
Vybond manufactures tape products for HVAC and construction applications. The 555 FlexFix and 444 HVAC Bubble Wrap Tape address the two most common sealing scenarios contractors encounter: closing flex duct connections and metal joints to code, and wrapping reflective bubble insulation so it holds. Both use acrylic adhesive with hand-tearable construction, and each is engineered for the substrate it goes on.

Seal to Spec, First Pass
The 555 FlexFix carries a UL 181B-FX listing, meaning it meets code for Class 1 flexible, non-metallic air ducts. For contractors working on listed flex duct systems, using a non-listed tape creates a compliance question at inspection. The 555 removes that question.
The backing is a printed OPP film with a high-tack acrylic adhesive rated at 45 oz/in adhesion to steel. It bonds on contact across surfaces that tend to cause adhesion problems, including reflective and bubble insulation. Hand-tearable construction means no scissors or knives are needed for clean starts and quick wraps in tight spaces, and the printed backing makes the installation easy to read at inspection. The 555 is available in metallic, black, and clear, operates from -40 to 212°F, and carries a 0-VOC formulation that keeps the work cleaner in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces.

The Application That Needs Its Own Tape
Reflective bubble insulation presents a challenge general-purpose tape is not built for. The surface is soft and uneven, and a tape that does not conform to it bridges rather than bonds — leaving gaps that let air or moisture through, not always visible until the insulation is inspected or disturbed.
The 444 HVAC Bubble Wrap Tape is engineered for this substrate. Its conformable OPP film backing wraps snugly around the contours of reflective bubble insulation rather than bridging across them. The acrylic adhesive provides strong initial tack and long-term hold through the temperature cycling the application will see.
The 444 is also mold and moisture resistant, which matters in any install where condensation is part of the operating environment. Like the 555, it is hand-tearable and low-odor, with VOC content under 1 g/L. H3: What Both Products Are Built For
Both products share design principles that reflect how field work actually runs. Acrylic adhesive bonds across a wide temperature range, grips on contact, and holds without needing extensive surface prep. Hand-tearable construction removes a step from repetitive wrapping and sealing tasks in tight spaces. Low-VOC formulations keep both products workable in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas.
Vybond has been manufacturing tape products for the HVAC and construction trades since 1967, first as Imperial Plastics, then as Berry Plastics, and under the Vybond name since 2017. The 555 and 444 are part of a product line with decades of field use behind it. Vybond's "field-tested" description reflects that track record.
